Senior Thesis
INTRODUCTION

The three options for themes I have chosen for my senior show are an African Fantasy theme, a gothic theme, and a robotic theme. The works I want to include in my show are fifteen to twenty digital paintings and one photo roman (a series of photographs that tell a story). As required, I do plan on creating a new series of works for the show and (if permitted) I will reuse some of the works that have been in the juried student arts shows.
THEME
I have decided to do an African fantasy theme since I have been creating traditional and digital African paintings for the past couple of years. Most of the paintings I have done tell a story, so the new series of works I plan to create will have a story to them.
In terms of inspiration, I usually get inspiration from my own imagination. However, I have gotten inspiration from other sources such as songs, movies, and other artwork. For example, when I first created an African painting I got inspiration from a song. It was not because of the lyrics, but how the song sounded.
Not only will I include digital paintings, I will also include one photo roman that will tie into the theme of my senior show.
PROCESS
My digital paintings will be created in the following process. First I draw the scenes on paper and paint the background with acrylic paint. When the paint is dry, I scan them in the computer and edit them in the necessary software (Adobe Photoshop). See an example in ‘EXAMPLES’. For the photo roman, the process to create it will be the same. The only difference is the scenes will be imported in a movie-making software (iMovie). The paintings will be printed on 11” x 14” paper and will be matted, framed and ready for hanging.
MATERIALS/BUDGET
The materials I will need are Bristol paper, acrylic paint, paintbrushes, a working scanner, a computer, mattes, and frames. Since I want my work to be printed on 11” x 14” paper, I will need 11” x 14” frames. So the cost of those frames at A.C. Moore ranges from $9.99 - $19.99. The cost to get my work printed from Staples is approximately $10.00 or more for each picture (depending on how large the print is). At A.C. Moore, the cost of mattes ranges from $2.99- $5.99, unless the frames I purchase come with mattes. I already have a large supply of paint so purchasing paint will not be necessary. I will use my own money to purchase the materials mentioned above.
GALLERY SPACE
For the space in the gallery of the Fine and Performing Arts Center, I would like to use the left space in the front to display my work. I would also need to use the monitor to display my photo roman.
ADVERTISING
I plan on advertising my senior show by creating fliers, pamphlets, business cards, and posters. A professor also recommended I use a social networking site.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, my goals for my senior show are to successfully complete my show, demonstrate the skills I learned since I started college, sell some pieces, and secure a successful job in my field.
